The British prime minister may announce new punitive measures against Russia, his office reported.

A special address of British Prime Minister David Cameron regarding the situation around the Malaysian Boeing that crashed in eastern Ukraine is on the agenda of the House of Commons.

In his address expected in the afternoon, Cameron will announce about the intention to seek for imposing more EU sanctions on Russia. The British prime minister believes Moscow is applying not enough pressure on militias in the eastern part of Ukraine to ensure unhampered work of international experts at the crash site.

Furthermore, the PM’s office told  that Cameron might announce further punitive measures against Russia to be imposed by the United Kingdom.

It is expected that the sanctions may be an expansion to the second package of EU’s restrictive measures already in effect.  “The will affect specific individuals and legal entities,” the agency’s source said. “There may be several defense industry enterprises among the latter,” he added.

British media reports in general confirm this version of further developments. BBC radio has noted that the sectoral round of sanctions is not on the agenda of the European Union.

The upcoming address of David Cameron will be a preparation ahead of Tuesday’s session of foreign ministers of EU member-states, at which London will seek expansion of the second sanctions package.

On the whole, local analysts believe the UK will try to win the initiative inside the EU over Germany and France in building the line towards Russia and bring it closer to the policy of the USA. Three British senior officials — Cameron, Secretary for Foreign Affairs Philip Hammond and Defense Minister Michael Fallon — have made a series of statements on Sunday urging the West to toughen the policy towards Moscow in connection with the situation around the Malaysian passenger plane crash in eastern Ukraine. On the same day, Cameron has held a number of phone conversations, including with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
